$6.5 Billion Development Transforms South Charlotte Office Park Into Community Hub
South Charlotte’s biggest transformation is taking place as The Bowl at Ballantyne emerges across 535 acres. The first phase includes 4.5 million square feet of office space, 1,000 residential units, and retail spaces covering 300,000 square feet.
The initial section covers 20 acres filled with exciting features. You’ll find a 5,000-seat amphitheater alive with concerts, alongside a massive beer garden where people come together. Northwood Investors kicked off this ambitious transformation in 2017, reimagining dull office spaces into something remarkable.
The Oro Ballantyne will reach 26 stories high, offering 356 luxury apartments. Food enthusiasts will enjoy new restaurants like North Italia, Bossy Beulah’s, The Salty Donut, and Hawkers Asian Street Food.
“We’re proud to bring these high-caliber concepts to South Charlotte and feel like these deals serve as big endorsements for The Bowl,” Ward Kampf, president of Northwood Retail, said to qcnerve.com.
The area will welcome three light rail stations by 2030. Access improves with new connections linking I-485 Express Lanes directly to Johnston Road. The location along the South Carolina border makes it easily accessible to residents of both states.
Stream Park creates six acres of green space behind The Ballantyne Hotel. Tree-lined walkways connect shops and parks, while an elevated walkway will soon bridge shopping areas with peaceful green spaces.
Former golf course fairways now serve community needs. Stream Park’s renovations feature improved water management – including a new pond and enhanced stream systems.
The Lower McAlpine Greenway extends to Ballantyne Corporate Place, expanding walking and biking options.
Olde Mecklenburg Brewery plans to anchor the beer garden, while businesses like Drybar will fill the spaces between.
Dead spaces are becoming lively gathering spots. Thoughtful traffic planning ensures smooth movement throughout this evolving neighborhood center.
