BDaht’s 3 Useless Facts That You Probaly Didn’t Know
Happy Halloween! I bet there are a few facts that you didn’t know you needed to know. Well, that’s why there is BDaht’s “3 Useless Facts. Today, October 31, he gave us three different facts that might cause you to say, “Huh, didn’t know that.”
- World’s Heaviest Jack-o’-Lantern
- Did you know that the world’s heaviest jack-o’-lantern weighed over 2,000 pounds? The lantern weighed 2,684 pounds and 2 ounces exactly. Talk about spooky season! The pumpkin made its debut at the Ludwigsburg Pumpkin Festival in Germany in 2021. The massive lantern was carved with a face and other decorations including stars and scenic portraits.
- Black & Orange for Halloween
- I know many of us already know that black and orange are pretty much the main colors of Halloween. But, why? It’s not just because that’s for sure. Orange signals the harvest of autumn and black is a symbol of darkness and acts as a reminder that Halloween once was a festival that marked the boundaries between life and death.
- Why Jack-o’-lanterns?
- Well, jack-o’-lanterns are pretty much one of the signature staples of Halloween. You want to carve at least one pumpkin a year to make for your fall decor, but why the jack-o’-lantern you might ask? According to sources, the name “jack-o’-lantern” is from an Irish folktale about a man named Stingy Jack. Jack fooled the devil and in turn, he was forced to walk Earth with only a burning coal in a hollowed turnip to light his way. Creepy, right? They began to call him Jack of the Lantern and then came jack-o’-lantern for short, hence the name we use today.
