Steve Harvey Biopic ‘Seventy-Two’ in Development
A Steve Harvey biopic is officially in the works. According to Deadline, Objectively Good Media is in the early stages of developing Seventy-Two, an authorized film about the life of actor, comedian, and TV host Steve Harvey. The project will be produced by Mohamed Kheir and Matthew R. Cooper for OGM, alongside East 112, which is headed by Harvey and Thabiti Stephens, the Chief Strategy Officer of Steve Harvey Global. The film does not yet have a writer attached.
The biopic will center on a “transformative 72-hour period” leading up to Harvey’s career-defining performance at the Apollo Theatre in 1993, as reported. It will provide an intimate look at the perseverance and challenges that shaped Harvey’s career. After leaving a secure sales job at 26 to pursue comedy, Harvey faced significant obstacles. By 36, he was grappling with self-doubt and personal struggles as he prepared for the performance that would change the course of his life.
“I’ve been reluctant to make a movie about my life for years, until I read the pitch for Seventy-Two,” Harvey said in a statement. “It focuses on one of the most difficult moments in my journey and career and shows the world that hope is never truly lost. Wait until you see what we do with this.”
Who will play Steve Harvey?
Following the announcement, fans quickly suggested who might play Harvey in the film on X.
“It’d be hilarious if they got Michael B. Jordan to play him,” one fan said, referencing the Creed actor who previously dated Harvey’s stepdaughter, Lori Harvey. “Time for Michael B. Jordan to put that mustache to good use,” another fan added. Some suggested Kenan Thompson, sharing a GIF of the actor’s portrayal of Harvey on Saturday Night Live.
Others proposed actor and comedian Jermaine Fowler, known for his role in Coming 2 America. “They have a chance to do the funniest thing and cast Kevin Hart as Steve,” another fan joked, while some even suggested Mr. Potato Head.
In other news, Katt Williams’ viral Club Shay Shay interview with Shannon Sharpe continues to stir conversations months after it aired. Social media users speculated that Steve Harvey responded to Williams’ comments during his appearance at Invest Fest in Atlanta.
“You will never have a hater that’s doing better than you. Always know that! Don’t get off the wall to address some pitty itty a– boy… who ain’t got s— going for himself,” Harvey said.
The comedy icon also made light of his ability to defend himself, joking that he could still hold his own if necessary.
For context, Williams’ interview with Shannon Sharpe caused quite a stir when he called out several fellow comedians. He accused Harvey of stealing the concept for Mark Curry’s 1992 ABC sitcom Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper during the three-hour discussion. Williams also claimed that Harvey’s iconic ‘90s haircut was a “man-unit” and compared his current appearance to “Mr. Potato Head” from Toy Story.
Additionally, Williams continued to accuse Harvey of harboring jealousy toward the late Bernie Mac and expressed that he was putting an end to all of the lies.
