Middle School Mentoring Program with Big Brothers Big Sisters
FINDING NEW WAYS TO REACH MORE CHILDREN
We know that the 1,500+ children served by our mentoring programs represent less than 10% of those children in Central Carolinas who could benefit from having a one-to-one mentor. That is why we continue to develop innovative new programs to provide more Bigs for more Littles in the communities we serve.
BEYOND SCHOOL WALLS MIDDLE SCHOOL MENTORING
Beyond School Walls is a unique one-to-one youth mentoring program for middle school students where local companies give back to the community by hosting children from a nearby school at their corporate office. Children are exposed to their career potential first-hand, by developing meaningful relationships with mentors in their place of work. In addition to social engagement, students are presented with a workforce readiness curriculum, designed to facilitate practical skills like public speaking, financial management, and workplace etiquette.
Big Brothers Big Sisters works with companies and local middle schools to identify matches. A program coordinator is chosen to manage the program and structure all Big/Little meetings. Match support specialists provide ongoing professional support to Bigs, Littles, staff, and parents. Each company hosts bi-monthly lunches for the children and mentors.
