How Much Does It Cost To Rent An Apartment in Charlotte in 2020?
I’ve been in Charlotte going on three years now. To my surprise, rent in Charlotte was way more expensive than rent in Raleigh. I know Charlotte is a bigger city and all of that but the majority of my surprise came to the price of rent in “nearby” areas. For example, when I rented an apartment in Raleigh I lived approximately 2 miles away from what is considered “Downtown Raleigh” and for a one-bedroom apartment, I paid $800. Looking in Charlotte, I could barely find any one-bedroom apartments around that price range. Working in the South End and having to be at work by 5:00 am, I don’t want my commute to be too long, you know? So that’s been the biggest surprise to me.
Various trackers showed that rents across Charlotte have continued to track upward when compared to the previous 12-month period. Apartment List said Charlotte’s year-over-year rent growth of 2.6% in December was the 8th highest of the nation’s largest cities that have at least 250,000 residents. It’s data put the monthly median rent at $989 for a one-bedroom apartment in Charlotte and at $1,154 for a two-bedroom unit.
