Happy Sweet 16 to the late Kobe Bryant’s daughter Gianna Bryant. Gigi would have turned 16 this past Sunday (May 1st). She and her NBA star father were killed in a helicopter crash in 2020. To commemorate and honor her legacy to support underserved women and girls in sports, Nike designed a new sneaker.

Nike released “The Mambacita Sweet 16” on Gianna’s birthday. And it’s sweet, too. It features a black snakeskin pattern to represent “Gigi’s Mambacita Mentality.” Gigi’s mom, Vanessa, says the shoe represents Gigi’s resilient spirit and love she had not only for the game but for her family, friends, and community.”

Proceeds from the shoes will go towards the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring Kobe’s and Gianna’s legacies by supporting underserved athletes, according to Nike.

The shoe sold out in 2 minutes.
