9 South Carolina Counties Have Longest Life Expectancy In The State

Having a long, healthy live is what most of us want.  And life expectancy can vary widely from place to place. Depending where you live , you could have more access to programs and more opportunities to ensure a high quality of life. A higher quality of life often times can mean a longer life.

Online newspaper Stacker recently analyzed data from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. It researched places in South Carolina with the longest life expectancy in the state.

In general, life expectancy in the United States has been increasing. The University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute says between 1960 and 2019, the life expectancy of Americans rose by almost a decade to the age of 79.  It's attributed to improved health care, as well as making different lifestyle choices. That includes healthier diets and reduced rates of smoking and alcohol consumption.

There is not one single factor that determines the overall health of an entire community. There are certain socioeconomic and environmental factors like access to health care, clean air, clean water, and affordable housing that all contribute significantly to the general health and wellbeing of the entire population.

So what counties have the longest life expectancy in South Carolina? Some of these small towns may surprise you.

According to the report, the average life expectancy in Beaufort County is 82.6 years, 6.2 years more than the average for the state. The coastal county also ranks first in length of life, quality of life, and statewide health outcomes.
