Today is January 21st (fun fact this was supposed to be my birthday). But more than that it's some awesome holidays as well. I still don't quite understand who comes up with these days and why we need them but hey they are fun to talk about. And any reason to celebrate is a good reason to celebrate. So today raise a glass or eat a piece of cake for squirrels, hugs, sweatpants, and more January 21st holidays!

National Squirrel Appreciation Day

I couldn't make this up. January 21st is National Squirrel Appreciation Day. My first thought was why? Well, its roots actually come out of North Carolina. In 2001 in Asheville wildlife rehabilitation specialist Christy Hargrove created this day. She observes it by putting out food and water for the squirrels and even letting them get some snacks from the bird feeder. An interesting fact about squirrels? They can jump 10 times their body length.

One-Liners Day

You don't have to be a comedian to come up with a good one-liner every now and again. Use today as an excuse to try one out. Need a good one? Here are a few ideas....

Don’t you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.

I know they say that money talks, but all mine says is ‘Goodbye.’

Light travels faster than sound, which is the reason that some people appear bright before you hear them speak.

Just burned 2,000 calories. That’s the last time I leave brownies in the oven while I nap.

National Hugging Day

Does someone need a hug? I get it some people are born huggers and others not so much. But if you so choose (and know the recipient is cool with it) give someone a hug today. Show them you care about them. Life is short, give the hug!

International Sweatpants Day

Does anyone wear real pants anymore? I never saw myself as the matching sweatsuit kind of person until 2020. Now its a rotating part of the uniform. Whether they are a coordinated outfit, a pair of way too old black baggy pants, or designer give your sweatpants some love today. If anyone comments on your outfit just let them know what day it is.

National Cheesy Socks Day

What is the perfect companion to sweatpants? Cheesy socks! You know the ones they aren't practical, guys wear them in weddings, girls hide them under boots, but we all buy them. Maybe yours say "bring me wine" on the bottom or do they have a picture of the grinch?

National Granola Bar Day

Whether you make your own or grab a Nature Valley eat a granola bar today to celebrate. Did you know that granola has been around for over 150 years? Me either! But I can't imagine life without them.

Playdate Day

This is your sign to set up a playdate for your kids. And maybe that can include one for yourself as well? The benefits of social interaction can be lost in this technologically driven world, but it's critical to development and happiness. Plus having a friend to help entertain your kids? Nothing could be better for your sanity!

Own Your Own Home Day

Did you know 50% of Americans own their own homes? It hasn't always been that way though, thanks to mortgages more people are able to experience the benefits of home-ownership.
