Crews shut down one lane in each direction on South Carolina Highway 160 over Interstate 77 in Fort Mill starting Wednesday night. The closures run overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. They'll keep going through Sunday.

These shutdowns connect to bridge-widening tied to the interchange improvement project for SC-160 and I-77. Message boards now stand throughout the work zone. Drivers can see what's restricted.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation kicked off a reconfiguration project in this spot nearly two years ago. The goal is to make left turns easier and trim congestion.

Erving Fraticelli works near the intersection. He's been dodging it since crews showed up. "A lot of us go in different directions just to avoid it. Some of us — this can get backed up just getting out of the parking deck can get backed up," Fraticelli said, per WSOC-TV.

Fraticelli said the work might cause more delays. "Once they make those closures, I'm pretty sure that it's going to delay us another 15-20 minutes," he said.

Jim Sposato drives through here to get to his job. He wants the road work done. "I'm tired of it. One of the reasons I moved down here years ago, there was less people, and there is just so many people in Fort Mill, especially," Sposato said.

The construction will hit one of the area's busiest roads and might slow morning and evening commutes. Some drivers have started hunting for other routes around the intersection.

"That'd be nice if they can wrap it up. I mean, it's been going on for a while now," said Fraticelli.
