NCDOT Plans More Retaining Walls for $600M I-77 Express Lane Project in Charlotte
N.C. DOT will construct additional retaining walls on the planned Interstate 77 Express Lanes through South Charlotte.

N.C. Department of Transportation engineers will construct additional retaining walls on the planned Interstate 77 Express Lanes through South Charlotte. These walls protect neighborhoods and parks from property loss.
Officials presented revised plans at Monday's city transportation committee meeting. The walls and redesigned exit ramps reduce impacts to Charles L. Sifford county golf course off Remount Road.
According to Queen City News, NCDOT officials say the $600 million in state funding requires toll lanes. A private partner will operate them.
The new lanes would stretch from Brookshire Freeway to the South Carolina border. Plans show the section closest to uptown would be elevated.
Some want to halt the project. Residents raised concerns about neighborhood impacts, pollution, and road noise.
