Randi MoultrieThe popular Durag Festival will be taking a "temporary pause" in 2026. The popular showcase, which showcases creativity, community, and Black excellence, will not be returning to Charlotte this year.
The festival announced on social media on Tuesday that they would be taking a "temporary pause" for 2026. In a notice, they wrote that the decision was "necessary" to ensure sustainability and quality.
In the social media post, organizers said, "As the festival has grown, so have the considerations required to deliver the experience our community deserves. Due to circumstances outside of our control, Durag Fest will be taking a temporary pause this year. This decision was not made lightly, but it is necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability and quality of the experience we're committed to delivering."
The festival, part of Juneteenth celebrations, started in 2018 and was founded by Lisa Michelle and Dammit Wesley. The goal has been to make Juneteenth the most celebrated holiday.
If you have ever been to Durag Fest, then you know what it means to the city. We are excited to see what they have in store and how it will be when it makes its return.
