Wu-Tang Clan & Nike Tease Return Of Beloved Sneaker Collab
Sneakerheads are excited over Wu-Tang Clan and Nike’s latest social media post. It seems to hint at the return of a fan favorite.
On Sunday (June 30) the rap group’s official Instagram and the athletic company shared a joint post with the caption, “BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.” It that shows a swarm of bees gathered around a high-top shoe. While the Nike check is partially covered by the insects, Wu-Tang’s signature black and yellow are visible.
According to Hypebeast, this sneaker was assigned to the Wu-Tang Clan as part of a special “Be True” release from Nike as it complemented the 1998 album The Swarm, a project made by the group’s associates, the Wu-Tang Killa Beez. The “Be True” collection was re-released in 1999 and to celebrate this Nike made the special Wu-Tang edition.
Many fans took to the post to share their excitement. One person seemed to feel very passionate about the shoe release saying, “If you didn’t own 36 chambers original release these aren’t for you” Another fan said, “If you don’t know all the members, you dont deserve this [diamond emoji] #wu4ever.”
Some people aren’t too happy about the re-release. “Yall can’t just let things be sacred,” one person shared. Someone else said, “Just releasing anything huh? Vault wide open?”
According to Footwear News, the post teases the upcoming return of the “Wu-Tang” Nike High Dunks, which originally hit store shelves in 1999. The shoes were a redesign of a University of Iowa-colored version of the shoes, to which the Wu-Tang logo was added to the tongue and heel.
The original release only saw a total of 100 pairs of the shoe available to the public. But the collaboration has become such a legendary moment that fans even created the narrative that only 36 “Wu-Tang” Nike High Dunks were ever made, as an ode to the classic debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).
Some reports say that those that were resold featured a price tag of up to $50,000
If you’re wondering when and where to buy the fan favorite shoe, you can get notified about the collab here. Nike also responded to a few comments asking for more information saying, “You’ve got your eye on some heat! [Fire emoji] While there’s no news to share, we recommend keeping an eye on SNKRS.com for the latest updates.”
While further release details have yet to be announced, Sneaker Bar Detroit reported that the Nike Dunk High “Wu-Tang” will return in Fall 2024 at select Nike Sportswear retailers in-store, online, and Nike.com, priced at $150.
