Here’s Why One Of North Carolina’s ‘Naughtiest’ Landmarks Is Coming Down
A famous building very close to the Bank Of America Stadium is being replaced. It might be known to many, but most will claim they have never been inside. According to WFAE, the infamous Uptown Cabaret building is being torn down. It has been sitting on this spot in Charlotte, NC’s South End since 1930.
Clayton Sealey, who serves as a volunteer Planning Commissioner for the City of Charlotte said, “As for the outside, you could be forgiven for thinking that it was a more modern piece of architecture. It looks like a 2004 Taco Bell. Here’s why one of North Carolina’s ‘naughtiest’ landmarks is coming down.
Clayton said he had no idea that the building was historic. “About a year ago, I was making a joke about the Uptown Cabaret and then I was like: ‘Huh, I wonder what year this building was built. I found out much to my surprise that the building was more than 90 years old.”
The building is coming down to make way for a huge project. Two high-rise buildings containing apartments and many retail stores. Looks like many Charlotte businessmen can stop saying they just go to the place for the buffet. Times are changing.
