The Best North Carolina Steakhouse? It Comes Down To Raleigh and Charlotte Institutions

Author Melanie Day
July 28th 9:36 AM

There is nothing better than a juicy, perfectly cooked steak at a steakhouse. I say that like it’s something I experience often. It’s not, that’s not my tax bracket that steak dinners are a regular occurrence. But that didn’t stop me from being curious when I saw that Southern Living released a list of the most legendary steakhouses in the South. I had to see if a North Carolina steakhouse made the list. For science obviously.

The Best North Carolina Steakhouse

Number 20 of 30 was Raleigh’s Angus Barn. I actually lived in Raleigh for around 4 years and still consider it my second home. In fact, I probably spend 10-15 weekends there a year. I know numerous people who have dined at Angus Barn. I’ve even told friends who were visiting and needed a nice place to go for a special occasion, to go to Angus Barn. That being said I’ve actually never been. It’s certainly an institution in the Raleigh area however, and one that celebrities often frequent when they are in town. So seeing it on this list was honestly expected. Perhaps one day I’ll get the chance to try it!

Coming in six spots behind Raleigh is a Charlotte institution you may have overlooked when driving down South Blvd- Beef N’ Bottle. Beef N’ Bottle has been a fixture in the Charlotte restaurant scene since 1958. And you know that is something to be proud of! It’s another restaurant that I’ve heard fantastic things about, but haven’t had a chance to visit yet either. It’s high on the list though rest assured!

The state’s two largest cities however weren’t home to the only North Carolina steakhouses to make this list. One more made an appearance at number 29- The Beefmaster Inn in Wilson, NC. Southern Living describes it as “under the radar”. Beefmaster Inn only has 10 tables, so while not in a heavily populated area it may not be a place you can just walk in and be seated.

Have you visited any of these? Would you describe them as “legendary”? What would you say is the best North Carolina steakhouse? I’ll be happy to taste test them all. Only if someone agrees to fund that adventure. You can read the full Southern Living article and see the other steakhouses that made the list here.

Here Are The 5 Best Steakhouses In North Carolina

I try and stick to chicken and fish most of the time.  Every now and then, I have got to have a steak.  Sadly, in the small town I live in there is not a steakhouse.  So I did a little digging and here are the 5 best steakhouses in North Carolina.

I was so relieved to find that many of the best steak houses in North Carolina are close.  Very close. Regardless of how you like them, nothing quite satisfies like a delicious piece of meat in the cut of your choice.  I am a ribeye girl but occasionally order the filet.  Chain steakhouses just don’t quite satisfy sometimes.  We do grill at home.  A little trip to the butcher department of your favorite grocery store, about an hour to sous vide then put that baby on the grill.

What if you don’t have the time to prepare your own steak and you just want to go into your favorite steakhouse?  Order what you like, add on a delicious side, and don’t forget a refreshing cocktail.  A nice night out sounds just about right. The “Best Things In North Carolina” website has done the research for us and found the five best steakhouses in North Carolina.

  • Sullivan's Steakhouse, Charlotte, North Carolina

Best Things in North Carolina Says: “Savor the night at Sullivan’s” between the full food and drink menu that will leave you with a full stomach and satisfied experience. Celebrating an evening with your significant other, dining with a friend or attending a business dinner, Sullivan’s is great for any need. Eat to your heart’s content then smoke a cigar on the patio. It will likely be busy so make a reservation! I have been there.  Sullivan’s never disappoints.

  • The Wood Shed, Stanley, North Carolina

I just added this one in because I can tell you first hand this is a great place to get a steak.  Located in Gaston County it is local local local.  The steaks are amazing.  Try the shrimp cocktail and of course their signature tomato and onion sandwiches. Try the Woodshed in Stanley for a great experience.
