They have already made national news. And not just for being your ordinary gospel choir. Meet The Sainted Trap Choir of Charlotte, NC.
And in case you're wondering just what is a 'trap choir', according to Urbandictionary.com the word 'trap' refers to a place where drugs are sold illegally. 'Trap music' is a branch of rap music. And it is known for having fast-paced, high bpm beats with a lot of bass.
Trap Choir Defined
Now put all of that together and add in some gospel vocals, and then you will have a 'trap choir' or the Sainted Trap Choir. Dennis Reed and DJ Fannie Mae founded the choir in 2020. Reed says the idea came to him after he saw rapper 2 Chainz perform his rap music with a choir behind him singing vocals.
It wasn't long before Reed shared his thought to form a 'trap choir' with Fannie Mae who added the word 'Sainted' to their group. Reed already runs a nonprofit called “Inspire the Fire”. It is a group of youth he exposes to music through song and dance. Many of those group members are part of the Sainted Trap Choir.
We're Going National!
In its short existence, the Sainted Trap Choir is on the move, making national headlines. And or good reason. The choir includes a group of talented singers that belts out your favorite rap songs from contemporary artists such as Migos to Lil’ Baby to R&B artist Robin S. To see the choir in action is to experience an entire vibe. It was the mix of talented singers and highly-energized choreography that likely landed the choir a spot on NBC's “America’s Got Talent”.
They just recently performed at the BET Awards alongside Patti LaBelle. They will headline at the Lincoln Center's 50th Anniversary Hip-Hop event. And are here in Charlotte performing at the Neighborhood Theatre Friday, July 21 at 8pm.
Lastly, they plan on adding more members. Auditions are coming soon.

Number Of North Carolina Reality TV Singing Competition Winners Is Second In The Nation
Do you love reality TV singing competitions? I was once an avid viewer of American Idol back in the early seasons, but eventually gave that up. Partially due to the lack of the majority of contestants ever going on to have a successful music career. It just felt like a waste to watch and get emotionally attached to artists who you'd never hear from again. But many of these shows including American Idol and The Voice are still thriving and attracting both viewers and contestants. And here in North Carolina, we have the second-highest number of reality singing competition winners in the nation. Who would have thought? We actually had several contestants from North Carolina including Kellie Pickler, Chris Daughtry, and Clay Aiken but none of those three went on to win the competition.
But three others did, and all three represent different genres of music. Our friends over at BetCarolina.com – your source for North Carolina sports betting - utilized Wikipedia to gather each winner from each season of NBC’s “The Voice,” FOX & ABC’s “American Idol” as well as the singers who won on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” After compiling this data they were able to compile a list of the states that have produced the most singing competition winners. Do you think you remember the three North Carolina singing competition winners? Keep reading to see if you are correct!
