Janelle Monáe Goes Topless In Vacation Video Teasing New Song ‘Float’
Janelle Monáe posted a montage video of her friends enjoying a vacation in promotion of her new song “Float” on Tuesday (Jan. 24). The new song shows that Monáe is going through a transitional period where a newfound confidence has emerged.
She sings: “No I’m not the same, I think I done changed/ See something not the same/ I used to walk into the room head down, I don’t walk, now I float/ Float all of my, float all of this, float/ They hangin’ onto that goose down in my coat/ Float all of my, float all of this, float/ I don’t step, I don’t walk, I don’t dance, I just float.”
Last month, the singer teased “Float” on Best way to describe how I’m feeling on this birthday. It’s float season for me baby. Floating in gratitude. 🥹feeling much lighter. Fucked around and got more FREE. I’m not the same nigga.
I just … Float ☁️🌊🛸🕴️❣️

The last time Monáe put out a full-length project was Dirty Computer in 2018. The album got two Grammy nominations including one for Album of the Year. Monáe released two singles in 2021 including “Stronger” (from Netflix’s We the People) and “Say Her Name (Hell You Talmbout).”
Although she previously said that she doesn’t consider herself a serious actor, her latest film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has caught a lot of buzz and has earned an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
As of publication time, an official release date for Monáe’s new single has not been announced.
