Photos: Biltmore Estate’s Massive Christmas Tree Arrives
If you haven’t experienced Biltmore Estate at Christmas time I’ll be the first to encourage you to make a visit. Biltmore Estate is located in Asheville, NC. It is the location of America’s largest private-owned home. The sprawling estate was home to George Vanderbilt and is still owned and operated by the family today. The estate is breathtaking any time of year, but it’s simply magical at Christmas. One of the highlights is the massive Christmas tree that stands in the Banquet Hall of Biltmore. The live tree arrived at the house and was taken into the hall yesterday. Photos of the tree’s arrival were posted on Facebook by Biltmore. There will also be a short documentary posted this evening (November 4th) showing them getting the tree into the house.
The arrival of the Biltmore Christmas tree ushers in “Christmas At Biltmore”. The event kicks off November 4th and features more than 100 decorated trees, 10,000 ornaments, 100,000 twinkling holiday lights, and an array of festive Christmas displays. The holiday season offers two different experiences. First is a daytime celebration perfect for viewing garlands, trees, and other decorations that deck the luminous halls. The second experience is Candlelight Christmas Evenings which features live music, lit fireplaces, and candlelight as you stroll through Christmas the way it would have felt in the late 1800s.
It’s not just the house that’s decorated the hotels on the property, the village, the winery, the conservatory, and the restaurants are all dressed in their Christmas best. The event kicks off on November 5th and runs through January 9th. I had the opportunity to visit on New Year’s Eve several times and it was perfect even after the hustle and bustle of the season.

What: OMB’s Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market) is a truly unique experience unlike any other in the Charlotte area. We transform our Biergarten into a German-style Christmas Village with traditional huts for shopping, holiday music, tons of lights, Gluhwein (our spiced wine pronounced “Gloo-vine,”) hot cocoa, festive food, warm fire pits, and of course, there will be plenty of beer, including seasonal favorites Yule Bock and Dunkel!

What: The Winter Wonderland Shop, benefiting Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, carries Charlotte’s longstanding tradition as our community’s leading family-centric shopping event. What: Looking for a less hectic Christmas experience? Then make Historic Gold Hill your holiday destination by visiting Santa and the Historic Gold Hill merchants Friday, December 2 through Sunday December 4. In the Village you can step back in time and enjoy the season in a lovely, relaxed, quaint setting surrounded by nine unique specialty shops and Mama T’s restaurant. Merchants will offer complimentary light refreshments in their shops, hayrides, marshmallow roasting, live music, and free photo ops with Santa. All activities are free to the public.

Kannapolis Celebration of Lights
Where: Village Park Kannapolis
When: November 20th-December 30th
What: Come to Village Park and enjoy all the beautiful lights and displays in celebration of the holidays. Area choirs and school groups will perform on select evenings between 6 and 8 pm (December 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15). Bring your wish list for your visit with Santa – you are welcome to take your photo with him at no charge. Other activities include making a holiday craft, enjoying smore’s around the fire pit and much more. Local craft and artisans be on hand on the weekends so come prepared to do your Christmas shopping. Food trucks will have food and drinks for sale.

Downtown Mooresville Holiday Light Spectacular
Where: The lawn at Mooresville Town Hall
When: November 26th-Christmas
What: An orchestrated light show with 115,000+ lights set to music. The show takes place on the lawn at Town Hall, 413 N. Main Street, every evening beginning at 5:30. It’s fun for the kids (and adults!) and is a perfect way to start a night downtown.

A Classic Christmas in Mooresville
Where: Broad & Mainstreets Mooresville
When: December 13th and 20ths
What: This annual Friday night holiday celebration includes Santa visits, a Christmas tree lane, wagon rides, life-sized snow globe, ice skating and more! Activities take place on Broad & Main Streets from 6-8pm; ice skating 5-9pm. Loading for wagon rides takes place at the Christian Mission on Broad Street.
