McDonald’s Tests Adding Krispy Kreme Donuts To Its Menu

Just when you thought we couldn’t ‘indulge’ anymore in guilty pleasures, McDonald’s introduces something new on its menu. Starting October 26,
McDonald’s will sell Krispy Kreme donuts at some locations.
According to CNN Business, both companies say the unusual partnership is part of a test to “inform future menu decisions.” It is ‘unusual’ because both chains already compete for breakfast customers. Not to mention, McDonald’s has a variety of
pastries in its McCafe line.Here’s how it will work. Krispy Kreme will deliver the donuts daily to the participating restaurants. Customers will be able to purchase them individually or in six packs. They can choose from the classic glazed, chocolate with sprinkles and raspberry filled.
In a statement, McDonald’s says, “…it’s always looking for ways to give our fans more of what they crave.” They say this is a small-scale test to help them understand whether to add any new bakery items and if so, how it could impact operations.
The test will run for a limited time. For McDonald’s, they hope adding the donuts to the menu will attract new customers during the morning. The chain has suffered business in other day parts like lunch and dinner, according to research firm NDP Group.
As for Krispy Kreme, the positive is it could potentially grow bigger. The chain wants to expand in the United States. Currently, the chain makes donuts at its stores and bakeries and sells them at third-party locations.
For now, customers will only be able to get Krispy Kreme donuts at nine McDonald’s locations in Louisville, Ky.
