PnB Rock: All Suspects Charged In Connection To The Rapper’s Murder
Three people, including a father and son, have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of rapper PnB Rock, officials announced Thursday (Sept. 29) per local news outlet KTLA. Freddie Lee Trone, 40, was charged with one count of murder and conspiracy to commit robbery, along with two counts of second-degree robbery, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
His 17-year-old son faces the same charges, while 38-year-old Shauntel Trone faces one count of accessory after the fact. The minor and Shauntel Trone were taken into custody Tuesday, while Freddie Lee Trone was arrested in Las Vegas, Los Angeles police officials announced Thursday (Sept. 29).
Shauntel Trone is Freddie Lee Trone’s wife and the minor’s stepmother, per the LA Times. The teen and Shauntrel are not related said Greg Risling, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.
As we previously reported on Sept. 12, PnB Rock (born Rakim Hasheem Allen) was dining at a local Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles with his girlfriend, Stephanie Sibounheuang, around 1 p.m. when the shooting occurred, TMZ first reported.
Social media users suggested that the suspected shooter was tipped off on Rock’s whereabouts due to a social media post made by Sibounheuang but law enforcement sources have told The Times that Freddie Lee Trone and his son were at the Roscoe’s parking lot before any social media posts related to the rapper’s presence there were published.
The teen approached Rock with a mask on, pointed a gun at him, and shouted, “Give me all of your jewelry now,” according to the complaint. Prosecutors allege he shot the rapper once in the chest while he sat a table, then twice more in the back, the outlet reports.
Seconds later, the teen allegedly threatened to shoot Sibounheuang in the head and took several pieces of jewelry off Rock’s body.
Law enforcement was called to the restaurant at 1:23 p.m. to respond to a shooting with life-threatening injuries. Rock was transported to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead at 1:59 pm, per The Los Angeles Times.
The teen appeared in juvenile court Thursday (Sept. 29), and prosecutors have not confirmed whether or not the 17-year-old will be tried as an adult.
“The decision of whether or not we seek to transfer a minor to adult court is not one taken lightly,” said Tiffiny Blacknell, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office. “The office will not comment on the minor’s suitability for juvenile court without a thorough review of his background, the law and the circumstance surrounding the case.”
A court date has not been set for Freddie Lee Trone and Shauntel Trone was scheduled to be arraigned in the Compton Courthouse on Thursday.
