It was a pretty stiff competition among food trucks, but GRITS CLT has earned the crown of "Charlotte's Best Black-owned Food Truck". It was part of a 4-series Black-owned food truck competition.

Charlotte's Black Business Owners Corp (BBOC) and Duke's Mayo sponsored the competition that began in July.  A series of four competitions were held with the final competition taking place at the Duke's Mayo Classic on September 3.

Three Black-owned food trucks were in the finals. They were GRITS CLT, Endless Soulfood & Catering and Made From Scratch. Each finalist had won one of the previous three competitions in the series.

For the final competition, each food truck had 1.5 hours to create a dish using a Mystery Basket and a large jar of Duke's Mayonnaise, according to a press release from BBOC.

It was the tacos that GRITS CLT made that wowed the judges and won them competition. Several judges were present, including Mayor Vi Lyles, and Congresswoman Alma Adams.

As the grand prize winner, GRITS CLT was awarded a $6,000 grant.  In second place, Endless Soulfood won a $2,000  grant. And taking third place, Made From Scratch received a $500.
