Oldest North Carolina Hotel Also One of the Most Haunted Spots
Looking to get your spook on? Well, we may have the perfect place for you to visit. If you are anything like me, then spooky and creepy things may scare you, but you enjoy it. Yes, I know I am weird. But, it’s the truth. Haunted places, ghost stories, and scary movies are all part of the reason I love the fall season so much.
Only in Your State is sharing one of the most haunted places in North Carolina. Winston-Salem is home to North Carolina’s oldest hotel, but it is also one of the most haunted places in the state. The Brookstown Inn opened in 1837 in an old cotton mill. The location still has many of its original structures (and maybe ghosts). The exposed brick walls and high ceilings make this structure a beautiful historic spot. But, during the night guests have reported unusual activity throughout the building.
The resident ghost in the inn is a ghost named Sally. Back in the day, two women working in the mill lived in the fourth-floor dormitory. There apparently was a fight and one woman pushed the other down the elevator shaft. WOAH! Now, they say Sally, who was the one pushed, stays haunting the inn, mainly on the fourth floor. From reports of seeing her full body to hearing creeping sounds, and hearing a woman screaming, it sounds like Sally has never left the inn since the incident.
I personally do enjoy some creepy things, but maybe staying at this hotel is not on my bucket list. If you have ever stayed at the Brookstown Inn, did you hear anything creepy? Maybe even see a ghost? I am quite intrigued on the experience, but I would prefer to not have to live through it myself.
