Following the incident officials for multiple organizations “determined that the alligator should be humanely euthanized on-site,” according to Horry County PD’s social media posts. Such a tragic incident and one I’m honestly surprised hasn’t occurred more often. I’ve gone to the beach in the area for most of my life. I have countless memories of seeing alligators in ponds at the resort we stayed at as a child. In fact, a restaurant that we frequent also has a gator that lives in a small lake behind the establishment.
As always make sure to stay alert and aware any time you are out and about at the beach or really anywhere in nature. It is these animals’ homes and if they feel threatened they may very well attack. There is an ongoing death investigation surrounding this incident of the man being killed by the alligator.
