Boating Fatalities Have Increased
National Safe Boating Week
During the summer months, we’ll hear about more accidents on the water due to unsafe actions. The U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary are in partnership with numerous civilian and volunteer agencies. The week of May 21st-27th is National Safe Boating Week. As we head to the water during Memorial Day weekend have you taken boater education? Will you encourage your boating guests to wear life jackets? Everyone on the water should know float plans.
According to 2020 U.S. Coast Guard statistics, boating fatalities increased 25% over the previous year, as more people are on the water. The Governor of North Carolina will be signing a proclamation to recognize it, and we will have numerous activities in the area, including offering free Vessel Safety Checks at various locations around the Carolinas at Lake Norman and Lake Wylie.
