Megan Thee Stallion Honored With Key To The City Of Houston & Her Own Day
Happy May 2… or, if you’re in Houston, Megan Thee Stallion Day!
In a ceremony on Sunday, May 1, Megan Thee Stallion was honored with the key to the city of Houston and her own day. In the ceremony, Houston’s mayor, Sylvester Turner, and members of Houston City celebrated Megan’s philanthropic efforts.
“Megan Thee Stallion has an extraordinary entertainment career, but we wanted to honor her for what she does offstage to lift people’s lives in underserved communities,” Turner said, according to ABC 13. “She assisted people after the 2021 winter storm, during the pandemic, and helped those struggling with homelessness. I look forward to watching her grow as an artist and humanitarian.”
“I really can’t believe I got my own key to my own city,” Megan said with a laugh.
She added that May 2 also holds a special place in her heart as it also happens to be Megan’s mother’s and grandmother’s birthday, and they both passed in 2019. She acknowledged both her mother and grandmother in her speech.
“Both of these women helped me grow into the woman that I am today. I don’t know what kind of lady I would be if granny didn’t raise me to be so kind and so giving. You could walk by these ladies’ house and they givin’ out dollars, candy—whatever they’ve got, they’re givin’ it out the door. And I always wanted to be just like that. I wanted to be nice like them. They made me feel so beautiful and so loved, and they made everybody they met feel just like that. So I was like, “When I grow up, I wanna be just like them,” she said.
“Thank you Mayor Sylvester Turner for honoring me today and I will continue to give back to the city that made me who I am today,” the rapper wrote on Instagram.

Just last year, Megan launched the Pete & Thomas Foundation nonprofit in honor of her late mother and father.
