Turn Off Your Lights in Charlotte for Earth Hour This Weekend
Now is the time to give back to the planet. If you live in Charlotte we encourage you to share your support.
There is something called Earth Hour, and if you don’t know about it, I’m about to reveal it to you. On Saturday, March 26 at 8:30 p.m. residents of the world are encouraged to turn off their lights for one hour. Earth Hour is one of the largest global grassroots movements for the environment. As a result of the event, millions around the world will be able to demonstrate their commitment to action on biodiversity loss and climate change.
How did Earth Hour Start?
Earth Hour began in 2007 as a symbolic lights-out event in Sydney to raise awareness of climate change and has now grown into one of the world’s largest grassroots environmental movements. Earth Hour engages supporters in more than 190 countries and territories, all taking action to ensure a brighter future for people and the planet.
Why It Matters
According to Global News Wire, Earth Hour takes place at an especially crucial moment this year. Later this year world leaders will gather for the second part of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity COP15. They will meet and decide on a new global action plan for nature. This makes 2022 a once-in-a-decade opportunity to create a biodiversity framework that halts and reverses nature loss for generations to come. I will be participating in Earth Hour this year by shutting off all our house lights at 8:30 pm this Saturday.
