JD family and friends gather for Queen Charlotte event
It was a night I won't forget. It was 50 Black women who took center stage to celebrate their unique ability to give back to a community they love. It is a celebration of community, dedication, and the Black woman. I am humbly honored to be included in this kick-off event appropriately called "I Am Queen Charlotte."
It was a 90-minute on-stage performance with actors who told the stories of 'real' Black women in the Charlotte community. These women fiercely beat the odds, challenged the status quo, and/or committed to becoming agents for change.
It was an opportunity to learn just who these courageous and oftentimes outspoken women are. They are our leaders, our mothers, our grandmothers, our sisters, our aunts and they are our Queens. Let us remember that and continue to lift them up.
