NC Suspends Russian Liquor Products After Russia’s Attack On Ukraine
If you are a fan of alcohol brands from Russia, you are out of luck for a while. The North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Commission has suspended availability of liquor products produced by Russian entities. There are three alcohol brands that could be impacted. They include Hammer & Sickle, Beluga and Russian Standard.
NC Governor Roy Cooper has directed state government agencies and departments to review existing contracts and terminate any that directly benefit Russia. Russian-produced Special-Order products are also no longer available.
Governor Cooper says “The invasion of Ukraine is an attack on a free people. This order sends a strong message and helps ensure no public dollars or operations from North Carolina will benefit Russia and its unjustified aggression.”
Cooper encourages other state entities and local governments in North Carolina to adopt similar policies and divest from Russia. He wants to make sure public dollars and operations do not benefit Russia and avoiding new contracts with Russian entities.
