Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools May Increase Bonuses For Employees

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools leaders are discussing the idea of increasing retention bonuses for teachers and other staff members. Tonight a discussion will take place, two months after the school board initially approved the bonuses.

Back in December, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools board of education approved retention bonuses for teachers and other staff. Tuesday night, they’ll consider doubling the amount. Initially, full-time employees were set to receive $2,500 each and part-time employees would receive $1,250. The current proposal is considering doubling that amount.

The money for the bonuses comes from the American Rescue Act. The increased size of the bonuses comes as a result of the $3,750 bonuses Wake County Schools gave their employees even though CMS was given $100 million more. Teachers as well as support staff such as cafeteria workers and custodians would be eligible to receive money.

The bonuses for CMS employees will be discussed at the school board meeting tonight. If you’re interested in watching you can view the meeting on Facebook.

Durham Bulls are a minor league baseball team in North Carolina and are a great way to spend time with family and friends. Around the stadium, there is also a lot to do after the game.
