Charlotte Sandwich Shop Introduces “Mental Health Monday” To Give Employees A Break (VIDEO)
How many Mondays have you struggled to get it going, but just can’t? I’m that way. You get overwhelmed thinking, strategizing, analyzing about what’s next. Those everyday stresses can keep your mind so occupied you don’t perform your best when you need to. Well, one Charlotte employer recognizes that and has adopted “Mental Health Mondays”.
The owners of the sandwich shop Common Market say they started “Mental Health Mondays” to give their employees a break from working nonstop during the pandemic. Graham Worth says the store has been dealing with staff shortages, mask mandates, and other stressors over the past two years.
He explained,“People just felt kind of burnt out. It wears on you to have rude customers or something else… that we encounter more frequently than we would like.”
Worth added it’s not a paid day off, but some employees can use their PTO (personal time off) days to take the day as paid.
Mental health therapists agree it’s a good idea to offer employees a “break”. Therapists say ultimately, people want to feel appreciated.
Who knows? Common Market could have started a trend for future employees to offer “Mental Health Mondays”. I’m on board! How about you?
Here’s a quick video with tips to help you de-stress your mind.
