This Is How Newly-Signed Infrastructure Bill Will Help Charlotte
Vice President Kamala Harris made a stop came in the Queen City Thursday (December 2) to talk about the White House’s newly-signed $1 trillion infrastructure bill. And the bill looks very promising for the Tar Heel state. About $1billion of that trillion will come to North Carolina.
It was the first time Harris has been in Charlotte since taking office. She made it clear how she feels about Charlotte. Harris said, “World-class cities like Charlotte deserve world-class transportation systems.” And ‘world-class’ it will be.
Just where will that money go? Harris says almost a billion dollars will be allocated to public transportation in Charlotte. She says it’ll make your trip to work smoother and faster. She says the money will be invested in electric buses and electric rail cars, which will create jobs in manufacturing. According to the White House, N.C will receive its money for public transit over the next five years.
Billions of dollars will also be put into improving roads and bridges. Harris says money from the bill will mean fewer potholes on roads in the Queen City. The Tar Heel State will get more than $7 billion for highways. That will address the more than 3,100 miles of roads in poor condition. And there are more than 1,400 bridges on the list. The package includes $450 million to cover that.
WBTV reports the White House says monies from the bill will also create access to high-speed internet. For example, more than 1 million people in N.C. don’t have high-speed internet or can’t afford it. The infrastructure package includes at least $100 million to address that.
