A rep for the City of Rockford, IL told TMZ that they are making Wednesday, Dec. 1, Virgil Abolh Day. The day has no particular significance to the designer other than that the city wanted to honor him as soon as possible.
The rep told the outlet that Mayor McNamara will make the official announcement Wednesday (Nov. 30). Rockford wants to honor Virgil and his pronounced influence on the community, especially the youth.
Virgil's family has been notified and is excited about the news but they have not confirmed whether they will attend the ceremony per the outlet.
As we previously reported, Virgil died Sunday after his private battle with cancer. His passing sparked an outpour of tributes from fans and celebrities. He was 41.
