Atlanta Tops The Best Cold Weather Destination for Winter Travel
I personally hate the cold. For twenty-two years I lived in New Jersey and I don’t know how I survived. Luckily North Carolina isn’t so bad (it was 70 yesterday) but that cold is coming.
WalletHub released its report on 2021’s Best Winter Holiday Destinations in advance of the Old Farmer’s Almanac’s forecast for one of the coldest winters in years with a lot of precipitation. Yay…but not really.
In WalletHub’s analysis, nearly 70 of the country’s largest metro areas were grouped by warm and cold weather, based on cost and convenience rather than scenic beauty. In addition to the expense and hassle of traveling, each destination was evaluated based on 39 key metrics, including weather forecasts, safety, and the variety of activities available.
At the top of the cold destinations, Atlanta took the number one spot. The average flight to a popular cold winter destination costs $359.92, lasts 3 hours and 19 minutes, and has 0.22 connections. In comparison, the average flight to a popular warm winter destination costs $458.43, lasts 5 hours and 35 minutes, and has 0.48 connections. Among cold destinations, Louisville, Kentucky, has the lowest price for a three-star hotel room, $43, which is 2.8 times lower than Worcester, Massachusetts, the city with the highest at $119.
