FBI Promotes Cybersecurity Awareness Month
Has your IT Department sent reminders of being more aware of what you click on computers? I always check in with our local FBI Office to see what new scams are hot. Since October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, let’s pay attention and use the hashtag #BeCyberSmart when we post on social media. Remember Y2K in the year 2000? If you weren’t in the workplace yet, they referred to it as the Millennium Bug that scared us all. As we fast-forward to October 2021 it’s the 18th birthday of Cybersecurity Month. To keep up with scams check out official FBI site, here.
If you receive an email that only has a link to click with no verbiage, don’t click. The same goes for an unknown text. If you’re one of those people that answer every call that come in with a sales representative on the other end and they stress to take advantage of an offer immediately, most likely it’s a sign to hang up. If they mention sending a gift card as payment or head to our bank to wire money, please think twice. The moral to this storyline is to always think twice before spending your hard earned money.
