Let’s get weird.

It’s August 9th and just like the days before and the ones to come, the history is weird, a little scary and we’ve got a list of them for you to enjoy. Every morning I wake up grateful for the day and wonder what strangeness is associated with it. (Yes, I admit I’m a different breed of human) Knowing major historical events is crucial to understanding how we live today. Seeing what happened in the past intrigues me.

You might think I’m ghastly, but I find history fascinating because of the weird and scary things that happen. Here are 5 of the weirdest and scariest facts for August 9th. Enjoy!

• Whitney’s Birthday is Today

  Happy Birthday to my fellow Leo. Today is the one and only Whitney Houstons birthday. She was born on August 9th, 1963. She would have been 58 years old today. Whitney Houston died on February 11, 2012, aged just 48-years-old.

• Sharon Tate is Murdered

  On August 9th, 1969 famous model and actress Sharon Tata died. Sharon was murdered by a group known as the "Manson Family" and was eight and a half months pregnant at the time of her death.

• Atomic Bombing Of Nagasaki

  On August 9th, 1945 the United States dropped the second atomic bomb "Fat Man" on Nagasaki, Japan, destroying part of the city.
• National Book Lover Day

  Did you know “Bibliosmia” is the word you use for loving the smell of old books. If you love books then today is your day! August 9th is a day dedicated to all the bookworms out there. If you are an avid book lover, then today is the day to treat yourself to a good read. Fun fact, there are over 129 million books in existence. (Most likely tons more!)

• Women’s Day!

  On August 9th, 2021, we get to celebrate National Women’s Day. On August 9, 1956, there was a staged march on the Union Buildings of Pretoria. Over 20,000 women of all races attended the march in order to protest against the Urban Areas Act of 1950 amendments. This South African holiday is celebrated every year on a weekday. Celebrate the women in your life!
