When you’re celebrating Christmas in July, a water balloon fight is a perfect way to cool off. It’s just like a winter snowball fight but with water and plastic. It’s refreshing and brings in some holiday cheer.
By JJM Photography/ShutterstockSummer temperatures are expected to continue to rise and the heat index is expected to reach between 100 - 105 degrees. That's not good news if you don't have access to cool air which is why Mecklenburg County, the Emergency Management Office, and homeless providers are working together to offer residents relief from the extreme heat.
Cooling Stations:
Cooling stations are open today July 30 and are available to anyone experiencing homelessness in Mecklenburg County and need relief from the heat. The Day Services Center is located at 945 N. College Street. The Center is open from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Visitors will find misting stations, fans, water fountains, chairs, and face coverings available.
Charlotte Area Transportation (CATS) will provide free transportation to anyone needing transport to the Roof Above Day Services Center location, any Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library location, and the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Centers, Senior Centers, and spray ground and pool locations listed below, which are designated as cooling stations.
