Video Shows Passenger Punching Flight Attendant, Union Wants More Protection For Airlines Staff
I’m preparing to book some flights for summer travel, but I’m a bit weary now after hearing about the increased number of assaults on flight attendants – while on the plane. The latest one – a Southwest Airlines flight attendant lost two of her teeth after getting into an altercation with a passenger.
That flight attendant also suffered facial injuries. The alleged assault happened on Sunday on a flight from Sacrament to San Diego. The passenger apparently repeatedly ignored the standard flight instructions. Reports that passenger then became verbally and physically abusive as the plan landed.
Now the union representing the flight attendants wants the company to step up how they protect flight attendants from assault or aggression. In fact, the union is even asking for the public’s help in complying with flight attendants while flying to ensure everyone’s safety. Do we really have to fight the flight attendants who are essentially helping to keep us safe while 20,000 feet in the air? GEESH!
As it currently stands according to the local union, there were 477 passenger misconduct incidents on Southwest Airlines aircraft between April 8 and May 15. Southwest Airlines spokesman Chris Mainz said the carrier does not “condone or tolerate verbal or physical abuse of our flight crews.”
As for that Southwest passenger, that individual was arrested on suspicion of felony battery causing serious injury after she allegedly for hitting the flight attendant.
