Here’s what’s happening on the family-friendly front this weekend!

April 30:

The City Nature Challenge runs Friday through Monday and is an opportunity for everybody to help out scientists by documenting the creatures and plants in our backyards and parks. The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences’ website has lots of information about how families can participate this weekend, including a virtual kickoff at 2 p.m., Friday, and video tutorial that you can watch at any time.

May 1:

PBR and IMEK Studios are presenting Good Times, an immersive art installation by local artists that promises to be weird, wacky and fun! It’s free to go, but you do need to grab a ticket for your preferred time slot, and they might go quickly.

The show takes place from Friday, April 30th, to Monday, May 3rd, 2021, at The Underground, 820 Hamilton Street, at AvidXchange Music Factory. 30-minute time slots are available from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. each night. You’ll find links to get your free tickets here. COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS:  Hand sanitizer stations will sit throughout the space, and face masks are required.

Bark at the Park.Emmett Scott Recreation Center, 801 Crawford Rd., Rock Hill. 1-4 p.m. Free. Bring your leashed pup for the Paw Parade, contests, onsite pet clinic, vendors, dog play area, and more. Dogs will be available for adoption.

May 2:

Need some strawberries? Take your pick at the Hall Family Farm’s new location. Call 704-562-4021 or check its Facebook page to make sure Hall is open before venturing out. Here’s a farm database to find a farm near you.

Hello Huntersville Music and Arts Festival. Downtown Huntersville. 2-6 p.m. Free. Shop local artists, listen to local musicians, and grab a bite from an onsite food truck. This year, attendees are invited to color a block of sidewalk with sidewalk chalk.

Teacher Appreciation Day CraftSteven’s Creek Nature Preserve, 15700 Thompson Rd., Mint Hill. 2-3 p.m. Ages 5-10. $4. Make a corkboard for your teacher to show your appreciation for all of their hard work. Adult supervision and participant pre-registration are required.
