Bob Dylan and McHammer take the top Spot for the most Featured songs in Movies
I love movies. One of my favorite things about them is the soundtrack. I can’t tell you how many new songs I find and become obsessed with if they are in a film I like.
New research has analyzed over 4,000 movies to find out which are the most common songs and artists to appear on movie soundtracks. With over 15 appearances, U Can’t Touch This by MC Hammer is the most featured song in movies while Bob Dylan is the artist with the most credits for his movie music, featuring in over 123 movies.
The top 5 most-used songs in movies include:

2.“Under Pressure,” Queen and David Bowie
3.“Push It,” Salt-N-Pepa
4.“Spirit in the Sky,” Norman Greenbaum
5.“It Takes Two,” Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock
The top 5 most common movie artists include:
1.Bob Dylan
2.Elvis Presley
3.David Bowie
4.The Rolling Stones
5. Bruce Springsteen
Some fun facts from this study include MC Hammer’s signature hit “U Can’t Touch This” ranks number one, appearing in 15 movies over the years! They include Tropic Thunder, Into the Wild, Grown Ups 2, and The Festival. One of my favorite artists Queen is next on the list with “Under Pressure” by Queen & David Bowie ranking second place with 14 film features. They include Happy Feet Two, Minions, Sing and It’s Kind of a Funny Story.
Three songs tied for third place, with 13 movie features each to score this ranking. They are Salt-N-Pepa’s 1987 hit “Push It”, “Spirit In The Sky” by Norman Greenbaum, and “It Takes Two” by Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock follow in joint third place. You can see the full study here!
