Terry Rozier shot a 20-foot buzzer-beater to give the Hornets the victory over the Golden State Warriors the other night. He finished with a game-high 36 points. He is in the Allstar conversation this year!
The Charlotte Hornets acquired point guard Terry Rozier in free agency. Last season, Rozier played for the Boston Celtics, who drafted him with the 16th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.
In four seasons, he averaged 7.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. He was not an efficient scorer with a 38% field goal percentage and 35% three-point percentage. Still, he landed a three-year, $56,700,000 contract with the Charlotte Hornets, who will likely be the worst team in the NBA after losing Kemba Walker to the Celtics. He will play alongside Nicolas Batum and Miles Bridges in Charlotte.
With the departure of Walker, the Hornets now do not have any clear scoring options, and I expect Rozier to take on an expanded role as the new leader of this team. Rozier’s role as a starter will also provide him the opportunity to mentor the Hornets’ younger players.
His per 36 minutes statistics point to more production next season. In the last two seasons, he has averaged more than 14 points and six rebounds per 36 minutes.
