Take Care Of Your Elders
Caring for aging parents can absolutely feel overwhelming at times, but doable. The job of caregiving creeps up on us because no one expects it. Before our parents forget the good stories of family, please record them or write/document them, because you never know the roller coaster is going to go straight down. The wisdom of our elders is greatly undervalued in society today. Younger generations do not seem to grasp what secrets people and things hold when they have been on this earth for so long. I love the passion generations have grown into for our rights, but will it come at a cost if they do not open their eyes to the beauty of the aged.
Did you know that North Carolina houses the oldest trees on the east coast? The Black River Preserve is home to mighty trees dated back to as far back as 605 BC. Covered in lush foliage, the preserve stretches across 3 counties ending at the famous Cape Fear River. The beauty changes as the elevation fluctuate. From the moss-draped cypress throughout the river to the turkey oaks on the dry bluffs, there is so much history to be seen. Imagine if those trees could talk, what they would tell us. So, once we are allowed to venture out, we should grab a kayak and glide down this maze of natural history.
