I wondered if somebody was familiar with the wise quotes of John Lewis.  It’s just amazing how fast time flies, but the progress is slow pertaining to equal rights for all. The legendary civil rights leader John Lewis’s voice is unmistakable and stuck with me as the voice of reason and calm. Who could of put up with what he put up with? Lots of folks took beatings, jail time, and sometimes death just so they can live life without fear. I was so sad to hear of John Lewis’s death at the age of 80 on July 17, but his legacy will live on forever nestled with clever quotes this genius would say over the years. For instance, the one about getting into “good trouble” to oppose systemic racism is still very much alive and kicking and screaming in 2020.

Are you the kind of person that can dedicate your life to justice for all? Are you the kind of person who is into protecting and advancing the rights of Black people in the United States? What if the tables were turned and you had to walk in fear because of the color of your skin? I personally believe that’s what most white folks are deeply and secretly afraid of. It’s not just in my head, it actually came from a guy who shared that most white people know racism goes on, it’s just easier to allow it to happen so the table doesn’t turn on us white folk. I have always been heartbroken about the way Lewis was beaten and arrested as a Freedom Rider in the early 1960s as he and others galvanized seas of people alongside Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963 during the March on Washington.

After that time period, Lewis spent nearly four decades championing the causes of marginalized communities as a member of the US House of Representatives for Georgia!!!! WOW! I challenge you to find some more quotes, but I’ll leave you with this one that i admire as well. “Nothing can stop the power of a committed and determined people to make a difference in our society. Why? Because human beings are the most dynamic link to the divine on this planet.” ― Lewis on political change in Across That Bridge: Life Lessons and a Vision for Change Here’s a link to more quotes from legendary civil rights leader John Lewis.
