Two Nature Preserves to Explore Near Charlotte North Carolina
COVIS-19 won’t stop me from getting my nature fix!
Thankfully with some quarantine lifts in the Charlotte area, I can get back out to enjoying my nature walks while practicing safe social distancing. Two places I visited this past week since our parks opened up was Latta Nature Preserve and McDowell Nature Preserve. Both locations have some great hiking trails, scenic water views, and amazing atmospheres.
Latta Nature Preserve: This nature preserve is around 25 minutes away from Uptown Charlotte and features a natural heritage site with an education center, native plants, horse trails, and wildlife. There is also a raptor center onsite, however, it is currently not open. My favorite part about this preserve is the fishing and water views. It’s always such a peaceful hike and I’ve caught some pretty big bass and carps.
McDowell Nature Preserve: This nature preserve is around 25 minutes away from Uptown Charlotte and features hiking trails, water views, fishing, picnic areas, wildlife, campsites, a discovery hall, and even a gift shop. (Not currently open) I love sitting on the little water beaches that line the banks and soaking up the sun. It is always so relaxing and peaceful. One thing I will say, each time I got to this preserve I ALWAYS see a snake…and I am not a fan.
