MECKLENBURG COUNTY LIEAP PROGRAM PROVIDES RELIEF TO
LOW INCOME RESIDENTS FURTHER IMPACTED BY COVID-19.
APPLICATIONS NOW ACCEPTED ELECTRONICALLY BUT ONLY 10
DAYS LEFT TO APPLY.
Mecklenburg County, NC – The federally funded Low-Income Energy Assistance
Program has disbursed more than $2,000,000 since December 1, 2019. The program
provides a one-time credit of $300, $400, or $500 directly to the vendor for their heating
bill of eligible households. Residents do not have to be late on their bill to qualify.
In response to the financial strain residents are feeling as a result of the novel
Coronavirus pandemic, Mecklenburg County is heightening awareness about the
program and providing alternative methods to apply for dollars remaining in the fund.
“The money not used will have to be returned, and we have neighbors in our community
who could really use the money right now”, stated MenTchaas Ari, [insert title]. “Our
offices have closed to keep our employees and residents safe, but we are still working.
Applications can be emailed or sent via mail”.
Residents should apply today while funds are still available. Every little bit helps.
It’s an easy process. Applicants will need to meet the income guidelines, be responsible
for their bill, provide their account number and show proof of income.
The application period closes on March 31, 2020.
