So, if you've seen my hair transformation over the last year or so, you probably know that my hair is now more grey than it's ever been. And I embrace it. Yassss, hunni!
Anyway, I'm not so much in agreement with scientists who have recently confirmed why our hair turns grey. According to a Harvard University professor, STRESS is the culprit. He says stress actually zaps the pigment out of hair.
The study published in Nature, says the process starts with the sympathetic nervous system. That's the system that manages body processes we don't ever really have to think about like our heart rate, our breathing and fighting off germs. It is also responsible for our body's ability to respond to threats. It's this sympathetic nervous system that is very much linked to our stress response.
The study indicates that the sympathetic nervous system's response to stress is generally a last resort. Nonetheless, scientists say there are stressors that put the sympathetic nervous system on alert and that it could do permanent damage to a population of cells responsible for coloring hair. Thus, creating 'grey' hair - voila!
No matter how I got it, I'm loving it. I tend to look at is from a more positive perspective. Grey hair is a show of wisdom and looking distinguished! I'll take that.
