In case you haven’t heard all the hype about R&B/Pop/Hip Hop phenom Lizzo lately, check out the story on the V 101.9 website. But, for the sake of time, here’s the skinny:
It’s a video of Lizzo, government name, by the way, is Melissa Jefferson is shown ‘twerkin’ in a short black mini dress – get this – with a hole cut right where her booty is. She did it on the sidelines of the LA Lakers game over the weekend. Now, come on, Lizzo!
Now – MY thoughts…
Did you REALLY have to do that?? You are already a megastar from Detroit by way of Houston and Minneapolis; a phenomenal performer and songwriter and who really has been a strong advocate for women, especially the full-figured sistahs out there. WHY?
Every time I see a woman, in particular, take steps to “be seen”, I actually feel sorry for her. And I ask myself – is this really a cry for help? A cry that says “Please see me. Please notice me. Please value me.” Because I really don’t value myself enough to know I DON’T have to cut a hole in the back of my mini dress, bend over and drop it like it’s hot in front of the nation to be seen.
Her doing that actually shattered my hopes that she’d be different and she’d be strong enough to NOT succumb to what some in the entertainment industry view as being a ‘necessary evil’.
I don’t think it was NECESSARY AT ALL. Lizzo. We see you! The REAL you. Talented, gifted and VALUED.
