Lauryn Hill ls Back With A New Song For The Upcoming Film, “Queen & Slim.”
It’s been five years since Lauryn Hill last released a solo single but she’s back with a new track that will be featured in the upcoming film, “Queen & Slim.”
The song will appear on the Queen & Slim soundtrack, which is slated to drop on Nov. 15. This should be welcome news to fans of the rapper/singer. This is her first solo track since 2014’s “Black Rage (Sketch).” Hill has mostly stayed relevant by touring for the past two decades
“I just made the request. She expressed that she likes my music, and she’d see about it,” Push said of working with Lauryn on the record, which addresses mass incarceration. “I definitely followed the queen around every… Whatever it took, and it was super important to me when she showed interest. It was just super important to me to definitely have her on it. Lauryn, her discography, it means everything. It’s insane, so this wasn’t about ever rushing or being on a time limit. It was just about getting the song done right and to both of our liking.”
Others on the upcoming soundtrack include Vince Staples, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby and more. Director Melina Matsoukas said she wanted the sound of the project to reflect the progression of Black music.
“I wanted the soundtrack for Queen & Slim to showcase the historical evolution of Black music, from its roots in blues and soul, to modern bounce, hip hop and R&B—much like we used to see in film soundtracks in the 1990s,” she said. “We partnered with Motown because of their legacy within Black music. I am honored to have worked beside Ethiopia and cannot wait for audiences to hear what each artist has created.”
Queen & Slim starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith as fugitives from the law hits theaters on Nov. 27.
