NEW YORK, NY – MAY 05: A plastic bag sits stuck in a tree in a Manhattan street on May 05, 2016 in New York City.
New York’s City Council is scheduled to vote Thursday on a bill that would require most stores to charge five cents per bag in an effort to cut down on plastic waste. Today is Earth Day, and what a beautiful world we live in.
Taking care of our one and only planet Earth is a shared responsibility. If you aren’t sure how you can celebrate or contribute just recall the Three R's: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle! Have fun when it comes to helping the Earth. Try some of these ideas...
- Roll up your sleeves, get a little dirty and plant a tree.
- Use reusable shopping bags.
- Buy or borrow gently used clothing.
- Commit to having at least 1 vegetarian meal a week.
- Try cloth napkins instead of paper towels.
- Walk, ride your bike, or carpool in order to get from place to place if possible.
These everyday things may seem small, but they impact the environment. When we understand the importance of our decisions, we’re empowered to make a difference.
