Hip-Hop Makes Cheese Taste Better, According To Science
According to science, hip-hop makes cheese taste better.
Beat Wampfler, a Swiss cheesemaker researched whether or not music would help aging cheese reach a more robust flavor, and if so which kind would work best. Wampfler, alongside researchers at the Bern University of Arts, put nine separate wheels of Emmental cheese in separate wooden crates, feeding them various kinds of music via mini-transmitters. There was also “control cheese” that was left to grow without music, reports Fast Company.
A half year later, they put each wheel to a taste test. One wheel of cheese aged after having been exposed to Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” for 24-hours and another to Vril’s “UV,” and another to Mozart’s Magic Flute opera. Another wheel of cheese was exposed to Yello’s “Monolith.”
Out of all of the wheels of cheese, the one that was exposed to A Tribe Called Quest’s “We Got It From Here” won. The jury tasted each strain of cheese twice, and ATCQ won each time.
“The differences were very clear, in terms of texture, taste, appearance–there was really something very different,” said Swiss TV chief and jury member Benjamin Luzuy.
