JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – DECEMBER 08: Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, ex-wife of former South Africa President Nelson Mandela and President Jacob Zuma smile and laugh as the watch children being baptised during a service at Bryanston Methodist Church during a national day of prayer, on December 8, 2013 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Mandela, also known as Madiba, passed away on the evening of December 5th, 2013 at his home in Houghton at the age of 95. The Centers for Disease Control has just released new figures on just how long folks in the U.S. are expected to live. And that number has actually dropped over the past couple of years.

The CDC estimates how long a person can live in the United States is 78.6 years -- that's a decrease of about a tenth of a point compared to a year ago. And they say there are two contributing factors to the decline. The CDC says more people are dying from drug overdoses and suicides.

A shining light at the end of the tunnel for women. though. Women actually continue to outlive men. The average life expectancy for a woman in the U.S. is 81.1 years compared to men at age 76.1 years.  Not a surprise to me -  we (women) have to stay around and clean up the men's mess anyway. I'm just sayin'.
