Janine Davis iPhoneI have this friend who is so competitive - which competition can be a good thing - but in her case, she goes overboard. For example, at a networking event if I know someone she doesn't, she'll just abruptly interrupt me and the person, stick out her hand and introduce herself. Now, understand me - I have no problem introducing her if she's standing beside me, but she never gives me a chance!
Anyway, that scenario happened a couple of times where I was talking to someone she apparently wanted to meet and before I could introduce her - she interrupts me and introduces herself. And sometimes, the person I was talking to would actually jump. They were startled.
After the second time, I pulled her to the side and asked why she did that? She was totally oblivious. I explained, "You bulldoze your way into a conversation. And you don't have to do that." I thought maybe it was because of her work environment at the bank where as an African American female she had to always 'jockey' for a position; she had to force her way in to be heard.
As I was thinking about my new role as the midday host here at the station. I thought about how God just blessed me with it. And it wasn't a struggle - I didn't "jockey" for it. Of course, I did let it be known by stating I was interested in the position and I continue to perfect my craft. But there was no jockeying for role...trying to bully my way into the bosses office or 'brown nosing' as they call it. I was told nearly 300 people had applied for the position, but God said it was for me. I didn't have to jockey for it.
I looked up the definition of the word "jockey." It says a person who operates or works with a specified vehicle or object. How about switch that up and "jockey" for God. Then let Him do the work. Because what is for you is for you - period. If God's in it, it's done. Stop the 'jockeying.'
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you..plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
